At HUMAN, we’ve known it all along, but now there’s proof: healthy vending in schools creates a ripple effect and truly matters in the grand scheme of childhood nutrition.
According to a study published recently in the journal Childhood Obesity, children who were introduced to more healthful competitive food and drink options at school made more healthful choices at home. This is incredibly encouraging news for food service directors, nutrition activists, and, of course, our team of healthy vending franchisees across the globe.
With the USDA’s “Smart Snacks In School” rules coming into effect this coming July, all schools that are a part of the National School Lunch Program will have to adhere to a new set of standards for what can be sold in school vending machines, a la carte and in student stores.
Based on the above research, we can extrapolate that “Smart Snacks In School” – and the operators and their healthy vending machines that allow schools to adhere to them – will effectively transform the way children eat both inside and outside the school cafeteria.
This deserves an epic high five!
